How to play Othello Video Slots.
The Othello video slot is very similar to other video slot machines found on today's casino floors.  However, there are many innovations, too.
On initial inspection, you will see that there are only two types of symbols, white and black.  Also, the 18 paylines are laid out in a top-to-bottom fashion, with some diagonal.  A player can select how many lines to play, and his/her bet multiplier by using the standard button configuration.  Also, the player can decide what color piece to play, white or black.

Shown below are the 18 possible paylines:

When the player presses the spin button, the Othello pieces spin, and land on either their white faces, or black faces.  A payline wins when all pieces in that diagonal or column matches the player's color.  The more lines that are matched, the more the player wins!
To the left, is a part of the paytable that the demonstration program on this website uses. To see the full paytable, press the See Pays button in the demonstration program.
If all eight pieces in any row match the player's chosen color, the screen will then change to the second screen bonus game.
The bonus round is based on the standard rules of Othello for placing pieces.  In other words, a piece can only be placed if it 'outflanks' an opponent piece.  In the example to the right, the player, black, will touch the board to randomly stop the highlighted green square.  A black piece will be placed on the board where the green highlight lands, and all white pieces that fall between it, and any other black piece are flipped to black.
After the white pieces have been flipped, the game checks to see if there are any spaces which cannot be played by the above 'outflanking' rule.   These spaces become marked as 'COLLECT.'  Landing on one of these spaces ends the game.  Due to the unique structure of the outflanking rule, there will be times where, to the player's surprise, a space that is marked collect may suddenly become a safe space to land on the following turn.
When a player's piece lands on a collect, or if all the opponent pieces have been flipped to the player's color, the bonus round ends.  The player wins a number of points based on how many pieces of the player's color are on the board.  Also, if all opponent pieces have been flipped, the player will recieve an additional bonus for completing the board!
An additional bonus is awarded when the first 7 pieces in a row from left to right match the player's color, but the 8th piece is the opposing color.  This will start the Gold Coin bonus.
The pieces in the awarding row turn into golden Othello pieces, and the player is instructed to pick 3 of them.
These pieces are flipped, revealing point amounts.   Watch out for the "SUPER WIN" piece, which will flip and award the points on ALL of the pieces!
